The Sub-Directorate of Research on Archaeological Real Estate is responsible for carrying out multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary archaeological research on archaeological real estate located within the area of ​​intervention of the decentralized body, the Caral-Supe Special Archaeological Project. It reports hierarchically to the Directorate of Research and Conservation of Archaeological Real Estate.

The functions of the Sub-Directorate for the Investigation of Archaeological Real Estate are as follows:

1. To carry out interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary archaeological research activities on archaeological real estate located within the intervention area of ​​the decentralized body, the Caral-Supe Special Archaeological Project.
2. To prepare descriptive, photographic, film, and graphic records of archaeological investigations of archaeological real estate located within the intervention area of ​​the decentralized body, the Caral-Supe Special Archaeological Project.
3. To identify, register, and inventory the archaeological real estate identified within the intervention area of ​​the decentralized body, the Caral-Supe Special Archaeological Project.
4. To inform the relevant organizational units about any alterations that may occur to the investigated archaeological sites or within the area of ​​influence of the decentralized body.
5. To issue technical opinions within the scope of its competence.
6. The other functions assigned to it by the Directorate of Research and Conservation of Archaeological Real Estate within the framework of its competencies or those that correspond to it by express regulation.
